Meet the CBC Preschool-Kindergarten Staff

The Lord called Jennifer in November 2020 to be Calvary Baptist Church’s Preschool Director. Jennifer said “yes” to Jesus one night of VBS during her elementary school years. Even though the exact date is blurry, the feeling she had in her heart, and the voice of God she heard with her ears, is something she will never forget.   She and her family have been members of Calvary for 15 years.  Jennifer and her husband, Justin are raising 2 beautiful girls, Skylar (14) and Marleigh (11).  Jennifer loves spending time with her family and friends.  She loves to host and anyone who has met her knows her door is always open.  She values creating strong purposeful relationships, community, and extending help to those in need.  Jennifer loves crafting for fun and has recently taken up drum lessons as her new favorite way to worship our Lord. Jennifer’s love for teaching and guiding children started in her middle and high-school years through serving in children’s ministry. She continues to serve in Yourh and helping with VBS each summer. She not only has a love for children, she has a love and passion for women and families. She currently serves as a Women’s Ministry Team leader and is a part of the Ministry Leadership Team.   Jennifer desires every family to experience the love of Christ. 

I am so excited to begin my new role at CBC Preschool as Ministry Assistant to Staff and Families.  My goal is to be a resource of faithful support and encouragement to the staff and parents, as we all navigate the daily tasks of working with our beloved children.  My career as a former Director of Weekday Ministries began over 35 years ago. My passion has grown ever stronger, to help provide the highest quality program for children at the heart of the church setting. I am grateful to God, who has guided my education, Master’s Degree in Christian Education and BS in Education from Pfeiffer and Indiana Universities respectively. I have been blessed beyond measure in sharing the message of love, faith and hope with young children all these years.  My son and daughter, Jeff and Jenny have given me the greatest joy of 5 grandchildren:  Alanah, Daniel, Weston, Walker and Wells. They are the light of my life!
I am so very thankful for this sacred opportunity and look forward to the year ahead!

Season was born in Charlotte, NC but grew up mostly in Union County. She married her high school sweetheart, Matt, in 2015 and they have one son, James Kye(6). They reside in south Monroe with their beloved Chihuahua, Squirrel and Lab, Bullet. They enjoy family vacations and being together. She has faithfully attended and served in church since she was saved in November of 2016. She enjoys serving others and seeing others smile.
She worked as a Certified Pharmacy Technician for 20 years until the birth of their son in 2016. In 2017, she started a small business selling art, crafts and alterations.  Although she has been content with all of her careers, she always knew she wanted to work with children at a young age, often subjecting her siblings/cousins to play school and complete worksheets she had made. She was always the "teacher".  Last year, the Lord called her to sub at Calvary. During that time, she just knew that's where she belonged and felt that was her purpose God was calling her to do. She feels extremely blessed to be in a Christ centered environment and have the opportunity to share Jesus with the children.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. -Romans 8:28

Brittany  grew up in Union County and she married her high school sweetheart Tim.   Together they have been married for 18 years.  They have 5 children- Kaelyn, Kamdyn, Knox, Kannon and Krew.  She worked as a cosmetologist up until the birth of her last baby and has since been a full time stay at home Mom.  Life stays pretty busy between ball practices, cheerleading and gymnastics but during her free time she enjoys crafting, going to the beach and spending time with her family.  She loves sharing Jesus' love to the kids and teaching them about the wonderful things He has done!

Nita was born and raised in North Carolina and has lived in several parts of the state, but decided to make Union County her home.  She’s been with her husband, Travis for 18 years and they have two children together, Hudson and Adeline. They are animal lovers and have several beloved family pets, including 4 dogs and 2 cats, all with interesting adoption stories. They enjoy spending their time together outdoors, by the pool, at the beach, at the park or hiking one of the state parks across the Carolinas. They have family passports to the NC and SC state parks that they are working on completing. When at home she enjoys cooking, crafting, gaming and reading with her littles.  They found Calvary Baptist church in 2021 and instantly felt at home. Nita helped to serve with the PPC (Preschool Parent Committee) in 2021 and discovered how much she loved being a part of the preschool and getting to spend time with the children. So, she began substituting in December of the 2022 school year. From the first few weeks she knew that’s where she wanted to be. Being with the children every day and seeing them grow and learn brings the most joy to her heart. Nita was the teacher assistant last year in the Violet room. This year is her first year as lead teacher in the Yellow room! She is incredibly excited to see what this school year brings!

Nicole Funderburk is a lifelong resident of Union County, where she lives with her sweet and patient husband, Eric. Together, they have four children and three beloved grandchildren. Nicole is well-known around CBC Preschool, where her grandboys, Max and Dean, are already part of the family. Nicole holds an associate degree in early childhood education and brings a wealth of experience and passion for nurturing young minds. She is especially looking forward to being part of the children's exploration and growth. In her free time, she loves to thrift shop, care for her many plants, and go on cruises. Nicole is excited to contribute to the preschool community and looks forward to all the adventures ahead. 

Micah was born and raised here in Union County. She has been married to the love of her life, Daniel for 19 years.  God gave them three amazing sons, Michael, Matthew, and Morgan. She has been blessed to be able to homeschool her children from the beginning. Micah enjoys hanging out with family and friends, reading, singing, and writing. Her entire childhood she attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. As a young adult she strayed from the church. But in 2015, she gave her heart to Christ. She prayed for God to use her. To show her where she should serve him. In 2016, she began leading the Youth at Mt. Zion. God has given her a love for children. There is no greater joy for her than getting to lead children to Christ. Micah is so excited to start this new year at Calvary Baptist Church Preschool. To see the joy in the eyes of children as they learn and play, is priceless. Getting to tell them all about Jesus and his love for them is extra icing on the cake. Micah is looking forward to all that God has in store this year at Calvary. May his blessings fall like rain.

Ms. Kayla was born and raised most of her life in Union County until she relocated to Pageland, SC.  Her husband and her have been married for 6 years and have 2 handsome boys Hunter (3) and Lawson (3).  She worked as an Insurance Representative for 6 years until the birth of their boys.  Since then, she has been a stay at home mommy.  She enjoys camping at the beach and spending time with her family.  She is no stranger to Calvary Preschool.   December 2021 the lord call her to work as a substitute teacher and this will be her second year as a Teacher's Assistant.  She loves seeing the children's faces light up when learning about our Lord and Savior.

Jennifer has lived in Union County her entire life and is the oldest of 4 siblings.  She grew up in church and came to know the Lord as her Savior in 1998.  Jennifer and her husband Dustin have 2 daughters, Nealy and Macy.  As a family their favorite thing to do is go to the beach.  While in high school and college Jennifer worked in childcare and then went on to work in the medical field.  When her youngest daughter was 2 Jennifer became a
stay-at-home mom until getting the opportunity to work for Calvary Baptist Church Preschool.  Jennifer is looking forward to a great year at Calvary.

Susan has lived in Union County her entire life. Raised in church, she accepted Jesus Christ at a young age, and  upon marriage began to understand the importance of a Christ centered life. Her personal journey has been one of continuous learning and growth through her faith in Him. Susan is blessed to be a mother of four, and her greatest blessing is being Sassy to Nealy, Macy and Jack! Susan worked for Union County Department of Social Services until June 2020, when she retired with over 34 years of service. Since then, she has enjoyed the grands, family, and  keeping busy. Working as a Sub at CBC Preschool created a whole new love of being around the children and serving in the preschool ministry. Susan is looking forward to the year ahead!

Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Tracy lives in Monroe with her loving husband, Brandon. They have a wonderful blended family with three sons, Steven, Mason, and Jameson. Together, they enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, camping, and vacationing at the beach and mountains.

Tracy attends Mt. Zion Baptist, where she serves on the praise team and helps with children’s church. After dedicating six years to being a stay-at-home mom, Tracy returned to the workforce. She started as a substitute and then a teacher’s assistant at Calvary Baptist Church Preschool, where her passion for teaching truly blossomed.

Tracy is excited and eager to help your little ones learn about the love of Christ. She looks forward to creating a warm and nurturing environment for your children.

Krystal grew up in Union County and she married her high school sweetheart Terrence! They have two beautiful children Caden and Alayna. She has worked in the medical field for over 10 years up until the birth of Caden. She decided to join a local preschool a few years ago and help as a teacher assistant. That is when she found her love for teaching children and watching them grow. In 2022, Caden started school at Calvary and she served on the Preschool Parent Committee and also began substituting. She quickly realized that is where her heart belonged and loves to make a positive impact the children. She loves crafts, reading books to the children, singing and dancing and spreading the love of Jesus! During her free time she loves gardening, camping, going to the beach and spend time with her family! She feels very blessed to be apart of Calvary Preschool and can’t wait for an amazing year! 

Maddie has been a member at Calvary Baptist Church since 2005.  Though a few years before she married her husband she explored other churches, she always knew and felt Calvary was her home.  Maddie has been married to her incredible husband, Cliff, since 2017.  They have two wild and wonderful children, Hallie and Waylon.  They decided to return to Calvary for good in 2021 and are so glad they did!  Maddie worked in healthcare as a Radiation Therapist for 8 years and as an x-ray tech prior.  She always wanted to work with kids and though she loved working in Radiation Oncology, she always joked that if she could go back, she would do something with childhood education.  In God’s perfect and immaculate timing, her dream to work with children is finally coming true.  He answered a prayer she didn’t even know she had & not only allows her to work with and teach children, but to also be in an environment that centers it all around Jesus.  Her story of how she was called to teach is a beautiful one she’d love to share if you’re willing to hear!

Meet Ms. Minnie! Minnie is excited to join Calvary Baptist Church Preschool this year, where she will be working with Miss Maddie in the Violet Room. She’s looking forward to a fun-filled and wonderful year ahead! Minnie grew up in the small town of Hertford, in Eastern North Carolina, enjoying a delightful childhood on a farm. At the age of 12, she was baptized and dedicated her life to Jesus. With over 18 years of experience working with children, Minnie retired from the public school system to care for her grandsons. She has been happily married to her husband, Lee, for 47 years, and they have one daughter, Carla, and a son-in-law, Zac. Their grandsons keep them on their toes! In her spare time, Minnie enjoys painting, drawing, and creating wooden crafts. She is eager to make this year a memorable and joyful experience for the children.

Abby is the lead teacher in the Blue Room. A lifelong resident of Union County, Abby's roots run deep in the community she calls home. She and her husband, Evan have built a life centered around faith, family and love. Together, they are the proud parents of two wonderful sons, Levi and Maddox.

Abby's journey at CBC Preschool began with her involvement on the PPC, where she first felt a strong calling to serve as a substitute teacher. Her passion for teaching quickly grew, leading her to take on a full time role. During her first year, she led the Teal Room, guiding and nurturing the 3 year-olds. Building on that experience, she transitioned to the Blue Room last year, where she had the joy of teaching the 4-year-olds.
Family is at the heart of everything Abby does. Whether it's exploring new places on their family travels or cheering on Levi and Maddox from the sidelines of the fields, Abby treasures every moment spent with her loved ones. Her commitment extends beyond her family and her classroom  as she is actively involved in the local recreation association, supporting the activities and sports her boys love.

Abby is incredibly excited to continue her teaching journey this year and can't wait to create more meaningful memories and experiences with our wonderful children.

Kelly was born and raised in Lancaster County, South Carolina by her loving parents.  She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.  A few years after graduating college, Kelly and her husband, Chad married in 2015, and then moved to Union County, North Carolina. They have two beautiful children, Ryder(3) and Reese(2).  Both now attending Calvary Baptist Preschool. Before the birth of Kelly’s first born she worked in the insurance industry. Since then, she has stayed home with her two children.  Kelly and her family are members of the family of Calvary Baptist Church.  Kelly serves on the children’s ministry in the nursery at Calvary.
Since Kelly’s son started attending the preschool in 2023, she was given the opportunity to substitute in the classrooms.  She had the amazing opportunity to see the love these teachers show the children, and how well our children are being taught, not only academically, but being taught just how much Jesus loves them! Kelly aspires to be part of Calvary Baptist Church Preschool, and love and teach these young children the love of Jesus Christ!

Brandy grew up going to church with her family and was baptized at the age of 13.  Brandy and her husband, Aaron, have one son, Declan, who is a blessing to them both.  They currently live in the Fairview area of Monroe and attend Hopewell Baptist Church.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, decorating, and crafting.  Brandy received a Master's degree in Teaching from Winthrop University and she has experience teaching TK, kindergarten, first grade and second grade. She has always had a passion for teaching and her goal is to make a positive impact on each child she teaches.  Brandy is so happy to be a part of Calvary Baptist Church Preschool and looks forward to sharing the love of Christ with each child.

Meet Ms. Debbie! Ms. Debbie is the assistant in the TK room! Ms. Debbie is a native of Union County and lives on Lancaster Highway in Monroe with her husband, Wayne. They have a beautiful family of five grown children, all of which are married, and they are blessed with 12 precious grandchildren! Debbie's professional career consisted of 43 years in Customer Service in the corrugated box industry. After retiring in 2021, Debbie found herself looking for something special to occupy some of her free time and was given the perfect opportunity as a Substitute Teacher at Calvary Baptist where she has served the past two years. She is now looking forward to being a Teacher Assistant in the fall. Debbie has always attended and been involved in wonderful churches in the area over the course of her childhood and adult years and landed at Calvary Baptist in 2021. She truly feels she is home as a member of Calvary and loves the calling of working with the sweet children at Calvary Baptist Preschool. When Debbie is not in the Preschool building at Calvary, you'll find her spending time with her family or traveling and camping in the mountains or the beach with Wayne.
